Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

265 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in the construction and refurbishment of a school (details supplied) in County Meath; when the works will be fully completed; if he will ensure that regular meetings will take place between the architect, project manager and the principal so as to ensure the elimination of unnecessary problems; if the present operation of the school is fully in compliance with the complete statutory regulations of health and safety; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32166/01]

I wish to inform the Deputy that the school to which he refers is being constructed in two phases. Phase 1 was completed in September 2001 and is in occupation by the school. Phase 2, which includes the PE hall, is currently under construction and is expected to be fully completed by the end of next month.

I am informed that regular site meetings do take place between the builder and the consultants to ensure elimination of unnecessary problems and minutes of these meetings are always copied to the building unit of my Department.

A competent project supervisor for construction stage was appointed to ensure that all statutory regulations with regard to health and safety are addressed on site.
