Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

322 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science when extra staff will be provided to a school (details supplied) in County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32283/01]

Special needs assistant posts are allocated to schools to support children with special needs who have been assessed as requiring such support. The level of special needs assistant support provided by my Department is based on the professionally assessed needs of the individual child or children involved.

The issue raised by the Deputy is being examined by my Department with a view to ensuring that adequate support services are made available to any children with special needs attending the school. My Department will be in contact with the school authorities in relation to this matter.
