Question:

333 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of extra facilities at Scoil Dara, Kilcock, County Kildare; when he expects work will start on the project; if there are outstanding matters still to be resolved; when it is expected the facilities will be ready for commissioning; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32432/01]

The stage 6 – tender action and report – in respect of the proposed extra facilities at Scoil Dara, Kilcock, County Kildare, has been examined within the Department. My Department's post-primary building unit has indicated to the school authorities that consideration is being given to formally approving the tender recommended for acceptance by their design team. This approval, however, is subject to confirmation that the contractor can meet the standard contractual requirement, that is, evidence of tax clearance, membership of CIF, etc. Confirmation of these items is awaited before formal approval to the placing of the contract can issue. At this stage it is not possible to state when the facilities will be ready for commissioning.

Question:

335 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress in the past 12 months in regard to the provision of the extra facilities required at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; the stage at which the project is at; the stages to be completed; when it is expected work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32434/01]

In December 2000 my Department's post-primary building unit authorised the chief executive officer of County Kildare Vocational Educational Committee that it was in order to instruct its design team to proceed with the stage 2 submission in respect of the extension project at Maynooth post-primary school.

The stage 2 – outline sketch scheme – submission was received in the post-primary building unit in March 2001 and, following examination, a letter issued on 2 May 2001 to the chief executive officer formally approving this submission. This letter also contained approval for the design team to proceed with the stage 3 – developed sketch scheme – submission.

The stage 3 – developed sketch scheme – submission is being examined within my Department's post-primary building unit. Once this stage is examined and if satisfactory, the question of authorising the stage 4 – detailed drawings – submission will be considered.

The following stages of architectural planning have yet to be completed: stage 4 – detailed design; stage 5 – bill of quantities; and stage 6 – tender action and report. At this early stage it is not possible to state when work will commence.
