Question:76 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the United States Government has requested assistance from the Government in the war against Afghanistan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29044/01]

The Government has not received any requests for assistance in relation to the current military action in Afghanistan against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. However, as the Deputy is aware, the Government has made available overflight and refuelling facilities in response to our obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 1368 of 12 September.
