Vol. 547 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

John McGuinness

Question:

155 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a submission from Carlow regional youth service regarding the need for Government funding to develop a youth facility in Carlow town; the status of the application; and when a decision is likely. [2994/02]

My Department received a request from Carlow youth services for financial assistance in 2001 to establish a youth information centre in Carlow and towards the expansion of youth work provision in the Carlow region.

Due to the large number of existing commitments in the youth sector in 2001 it was not possible to accede to these requests. Application forms for the year 2002 have already issued to all administering agencies and it will be open to Carlow regional youth service to re-apply this year. Every consideration will be given to these applications in the light of available financial resources.
