Vol. 547 No. 2

Written Answers. - Stamp Duty.

Richard Bruton

Question:

91 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the number of houses sold on which stamp duty was paid in the most recent year for which data is available; and the number of these which were sold to first time buyers. [3032/02]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that they do not maintain statistics of the specific numbers of houses sold on which stamp duty is paid. However, they do maintain statistics of the number of documents in respect of which stamp duty was paid for transfers of residential property. In 2001 this figure was 22,004. First time buyers accounted for 3,659 of these documents. As figures for houses and apartments are not recorded separately by the Revenue Commissioners, the figures provided include both types of property.
