Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Accommodation.

Denis Naughten

Question:

240 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will approve the Western Health Board submission to provide an additional five beds under the bed capacity allocation at the new accident and emergency unit at the County Hospital, Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3453/02]

I am committed to the proposed development of Roscommon County Hospital. My Department has received a proposal from the Western Health Board to increase the number of medical assessment beds to be provided as part of the proposed new accident and emergency department at Roscommon County Hospital. The current situation on this development is that the board has sought approval from my Department to issue tender documents to selected contractors. The matter of additional beds is being considered in this context by my Department in conjunction with the board.
