Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Voluntary Groups Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

294 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a group (details supplied) in County Mayo was refused grants under the voluntary groups scheme 2001. [3303/02]

When assessing grant applications under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations, my Department takes account of the overall level of applications received, the overall resources available to meet those applications, and the degree to which individual applications meet the criteria for funding under the scheme.

The group in question, who received a grant in 2000, applied to my Department for funding in 2001 to assist with the cost of installation of a new floor in the community centre, the purchase of kitchen equipment and tubular chairs. Their application was assessed but it was not possible to provide funding for the project on this occasion.
