Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Drug Strategy.

Tony Gregory

Question:

343 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his Department has overall responsibility for the national drug strategy team; and if his Department has a representative on the team. [3190/02]

My Department has overall responsibility for co-ordinating the implementation of the national drugs strategy. The national drugs strategy team, NDST, is a cross-departmental team comprising of representatives from a number of Departments and agencies. The role and terms of reference of the NDST are clearly set out in the national drugs strategy 2001-2008 which was launched in May 2001.

As recommended in the strategy, the membership, supports and staffing of the NDST have been the subject of a review by independent consultants which has recently been completed. The question of representation by my Department on the NDST was examined in this context and the recommendations in the consultant's report are currently being considered by my Department.
