Vol. 547 No. 3

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Austin Deasy

Question:

152 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the way in which the consultations with Waterford County Council and the Department of the Environment and Local Government are progressing with regard to the proposed sewage treatment scheme and foreshore licence application for Cheekpoint, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3294/02]

I refer the Deputy to the response I gave to his Question No. 100 of 27 November 2001.

A meeting took place between officials of my Department and the Department of the Environment and Local Government on 12 December 2001. Following that meeting an amended draft foreshore licence was drawn up, which included details of the tertiary treatment now required and a more detailed sampling programme.

A copy of the draft foreshore licence was sent to Waterford County Council on 18 January 2002 and my Department awaits a reply. If the conditions in the draft are accepted by the council, the foreshore licence will be submitted to me for approval.
