Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Billy Timmins

Question:

169 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her Department operates term time; the number of persons who applied for this in 2000, 2001 and 2002; the number of persons who were accepted and availed themselves of the scheme; if persons were refused; if so, the reason therefor; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3896/02]

In 2000 my Department first participated in the then "pilot" term time scheme and we have continued since then to make this scheme available to our staff. The numbers requested are shown in the following table. There were three applications refused in 2000 as it was not possible to obtain temporary staff for the grades in question and the operating requirements of the Department would have been adversely affected if these staff had been granted term time leave, without suitable temporary replacements.
