Question:

172 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 958 of 30 January 2002, the amount paid in legal fees by his Department in 1999, 2000 and 2001. [3691/02]

The Deputy will recall that information in relation to the legal fees paid in respect of the criminal legal aid and the civil legal aid schemes have been forwarded to the Deputy under separate cover. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to other legal fee payments is set out in the following tabular statement:

I would mention to the Deputy that the figures shown in the table include €913,846, £719,712.36, in legal fees paid by my Department in respect of the National Irish Bank and Ansbacher inquiries. These payments can be recouped by my Depart ment from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
