Question:192 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to update the Coroners Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3882/02]

The report of the working group on the review of the coroner service was published in December 2000, following a Government decision to approve the preparation of new legislation by my Department. A critical part of that legislative preparation involves the development of coroners' rules and these are currently being developed by a coroners' rules committee which was established in November 2001. The committee expects to complete its work within the next few months.
