Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Land Reclamation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

50 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the status of the Dublin Port Company application for reclamation of 52 acres of Dublin Bay; the total number of letters of objection his Department has received regarding this application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3599/02]

The position remains as stated in my reply to the Deputy's parliamentary Question No. 76 on 21 November last. Over 4,000 letters of objection, the vast majority of which were pro-forma letters, as well as letters of support, were received following publication of an environmental impact statement, EIS, in 1999. However as the EIS was found not to meet minimum statutory requirements it was rejected by my Department.

In the event that Dublin Port Company submits a new EIS meeting statutory requirements, there would have to be a new public consultation process, the outcome of which would have to be thoroughly assessed before any decision could be made on the company's application.
