54 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, in regard to his announcement of 27 December 2001, when it is intended to extend the new licensing scheme to all remaining small inshore fishing boats; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3490/02]

I can confirm that the licensing and registration scheme for small inshore fishing ves sels which I announced on 27 December and launched last week is open to all inshore fishermen around the coast who for various reasons have not previously applied to be registered.
