Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Port Development.

Derek McDowell

Question:

64 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if consultants have been appointed to undertake the high level review of the adequacy and appropriateness of the current model for the governance of the ports sector; when he expects the review to commence and be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3498/02]

My Department invited appropriately qualified consultants to tender for the conduct of a high level review of the State commercial ports operating under the Harbours Act, 1996 – 2000, late last year. The latest date for the receipt of tenders was 10 December 2001. Final selection of consultants has been deferred due to budgetary considerations. I am hopeful I can progress this important review as soon as possible.
