Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - International Conventions.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

26 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs when the Government will ratify the 1990 international convention on the rights of migrant workers. [3755/02]

Ireland has not signed and is not a party to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families. The current international position is that there are 16 signatories and 18 states parties to the convention. It has not yet entered into force and remains open for signature. Ireland's position is being reviewed in light of prevailing circumstances and in the context of the ongoing assessment and prioritisation of Ireland's international commitments.
