Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Commonage Division.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

173 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when he will publish the commonage framework plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4497/02]

The preparation of detailed framework plans for individual commonages, which is being completed jointly by my Department and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, is at a very advanced stage.

The main issue of immediate concern to farmers is the level of destocking which will be required at individual farm level and the manner in which it is to be applied. It is my intention, in consultation with the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, to make this information available to farmers in the immediate future so that they can plan ahead for 2003. The plans themselves will be published shortly afterwards.
