Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Autism Services.

Dick Spring

Question:

233 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health and Children if a database exists providing details of the number of autistic adults in County Kerry; and if he will publish details of same. [4312/02]

In recent years, as part of the overall development of services for persons with autism, the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority have obtained additional information on the needs of this group in their regions and in particular in relation to hose who require or who will require specialist services. My Department is working with the health boards, including the Southern Health Board, to establish an information system which will provide accurate data on the numbers of persons with autism and their service needs.

I have asked the chief executive officer of the Southern Health Board to write to the Deputy directly with any relevant information available currently to the board in relation to County Kerry.
