Question:

244 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of administrative and general staff employed by each of the health boards; and the number of medical staff employed in each case. [4471/02]

The staffing levels of each health board-authority for all grade categories, including administrative, medical and general – that is support services and maintenance/technical – are as set out below. Information in respect of 31 December 2001 is being collated by health services employers at present and will be available in the coming months when the 2001 health services personnel census is published.

Note 2: The grade category of management/admin. includes staff involved in front-line services for patients (e.g. Consultants' Secretaries, Community Welfare Officers, Out-Patient and A&E Department Personnel, Ward Clerks, Medical Records Personnel).
Note 3: Figures supplied are as recorded in the annual Health Service Personnel which is recorded at 31 December each year.
Note 4: As a result of the introduction of the nursing diploma programme, student nurses have not been classified as employees since the 1997 census.
