254 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children when the new acute psychiatric unit will be opened at St. Luke's, Kilkenny; the number of patients to be transferred to this unit; the proposals for the vacant buildings at St. Canice's Hospital following this transfer; if the extra staff required for the new unit are in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of the service referred to by the Deputy rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matters raised by the Deputy and reply to him directly.
