Question:315 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he plans to introduce the landfill levy; the proposed rate of this levy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4707/02]
Written Answers. - Landfill Levy.
In the consultation paper issued by my Department on the landfill levy, I proposed that the levy would be introduced at an initial flat rate of €15 per tonne, with annual increases thereafter of €5 per tonne. Following the formal consultation process in late 2001, my Department received nearly 40 submissions from a range of interested parties with regard to the proposed levy. These are currently under consideration, and are informing the prep aration of regulations to give early effect to the levy.
