Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

326 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can have entitlements reassessed again immediately. [4201/02]

The person concerned is currently in receipt of a widow's non contributory pension at the reduced weekly rate of €98.80, £77.80. Her file was forwarded to a local officer of the Department for further investigation of means. On receipt of the local officer's report, a decision will be made and the person concerned will be notified of the outcome.

Under social welfare legislation, decisions in relation to claims are made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
