Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Tony Gregory

Question:

361 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request a report from the Garda authorities regarding the recent spate of vandalism to cars in a number of roads (details supplied) in Dublin 9; the action they are taking; if the culprits have been apprehended; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4363/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since 1 October 2001, in the areas referred to, there have been eight incidents of reported criminal damage, and that these incidents generally consisted of damage to parked cars. I am also informed that during the same period there were four reported unauthorised takings and that three of these vehicles were subsequently recovered. I understand that no persons as yet have been made amenable. I am further informed that local Garda resources, foot patrols and mobile patrols will continue to patrol the area and that they have been instructed to pay particular attention to the localities mentioned in order to curb and eliminate these incidents.
