Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

480 D'fhiafraigh D'fhiafraigh Mr. McGinley den Aire Oideachais agus Eolaíochta an bhfuil iarratas ina Roinn le Scoil Náisiúnta Loch an Iúir, Dún na nGall a chóiriú nó scoil úr a thógail agus cén socrú atá déanta. [4776/02]

Is í an leithroinnt d'fhoirgnimh bhunscoile in 2002 ná €153.6 milliún, an leibhéal is airde maoinithe fós, agus léiríonn sé tiomantas an Rialtais seo maidir le cúrsaí cóiríochta i mbunscoileanna a fheabhsú. Sin beagnach ceithre oiread infheistíocht an Rialtais roimhe seo i naoi déag nócha seacht.

De bharr an mhéadaithe mhóir ar ghníomhaíocht i réimsí foirgneamh bunscoileanna ó tháinig an Rialtas seo in oifig tá ardú mór ar an líon tionscadal beag agus mór tógála a bhfuiltear ag dul dóibh agus tá an leibhéal tógála agus gníomhaíocht athchóirithe dá bharr seo níos airde ná riamh.

Faoi láthair tá an tslí is cumasaí agus is éifeachtúla costais, cóiríocht oiriúnach a sholáthar sa scoil náisiúnta Loch an Iúir, Dún na nGall, á scrúdú ag an Roinn.

Beidh mo Roinn i dteagmháil le húdaráis na scoile go luath.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

481 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science if there is an application in his Department to renovate or extend Glassan national school, Creeslough; and the position on this application.

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

My Department will give detailed consideration to an application from Glassan national school for improved accommodation, as part of the expanded building programme.

482. D'fhiafraighMr. McGinley den Aire Oideachais agus Eolaíochta an bhfuil iarratas ina Roinn le Scoil Chaiseal na gCorr, Gort a'Choirce a chóiriú nó scoil úr a thógail agus cén socrú atá déanta. [4778/02]

Louis J. Belton

Question:

483 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will sanction necessary improvements for Ballymahon vocational school, County Longford. [4839/02]

The allocation for post-primary buildings in 2002 is €182.31 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in post-primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of investment in the post-primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

A report on the condition of the school has been submitted by County Longford VEC on behalf of Ballymahon vocational school and this is currently being examined by the technical staff of my Department. On completion of this examination, consideration will be given to the progression of this project to the next stage under the expanded building programme.
