Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Transport Funding.

Ivor Callely

Question:

122 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the level of funding and subvention paid to CIE, Iarnród Éireann and Bus Átha Cliath in 2001. [4098/02]

Total capital funding to CIE in 2001 was €218 million, £171 million, which was allocated as follows:

Iarnród Éireann

€176 million (£139 million)

Bus Átha Cliath

€22 million (£17 million)

Bus Éireann

€20 million (£15 million)

A further €164,000,000, £129 million, was allocated to CIE in respect of the light rail project.
Total Exchequer subvention in 2001 amounted to €222 million, £175 million. Allocation of the subvention to the operating companies is a matter for the CIE board but I understand that the allocation was as follows:

Iarnród Éireann

€144 million (£113 million)

Bus Átha Cliath

€54 million (£43 million)

Bus Éireann

€24 million (£19 million)
