Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

180 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if an appeal will be heard for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [5037/02]

The person concerned applied for unemployment benefit on 27 December 2001. The deciding officer, having considered her claim, was of the opinion that she had left her employment voluntarily and was not genuinely seeking work. The deciding officer accordingly disallowed her claim. The person concerned has appealed this decision to the social welfare appeals office and her case is being referred to an appeals officer for consideration. Under social welfare legislation, decisions relating to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
