Question:

197 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of classroom assistants available to County Donegal in each of the years from 1995 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4892/02]

In second level schools in County Donegal there is a total of 23.77 special needs assistants in the current school year. This compares with 12.52 in the 2000-01 school year and 6.31 in the 1999/2000 school year. Details in relation to previous years are not readily available.

In primary schools in County Donegal there is a total of 135 special needs assistants in the current school year. This includes full-time and part-time posts. Details in relation to previous years are not readily available.

In the case of primary schools, special needs assistant posts are allocated to children attending special schools and special classes and also to children with disabilities attending mainstream primary schools on a fully integrated basis.

198 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of resource teachers available to schools in County Donegal in each of the years from 1995 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4893/02]

In second level schools in County Donegal, there is a total of 25.19 resource teachers in the current school year. This compares with 17.51 in the 2000-01 school year, 11.1 in the 1999-2000 school year, 7.15 in the 1998-9 school year, 5.39 in the 1997-8 school year, four in the 1996-7 school year and three in the 1995-6 school year.

In primary schools in County Donegal, there are approximately 38 full-time equivalent resource teaching posts in the current school year. Details in relation to previous years are not readily available in my Department.
