Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Personnel.

Michael Creed

Question:

43 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Defence the measures he has taken to assist in the development of career structures for other ranks in the Defence Forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4801/02]

In the White Paper on Defence, the Government decided that a comprehensive integrated Defence Forces personnel management plan would be prepared by military management as a matter of priority. This plan will set down policies and goals to ensure that personnel policies and practices keep pace with the current best practice to the benefit of the Defence Forces organisation and those who serve in the Defence Forces. The proposed integrated personnel management plan, which is being prepared by the chief of staff, will address the particular issue raised by the Deputy and will establish a range of career development structures for all ranks and an active personnel management framework to address Defence Forces requirements over the coming decade.

The development of a career skills training policy for other ranks personnel, which will combine with the integrated personnel management system, is ongoing at headquarters of the Defence Forces.
