Vol. 548 No. 3

Suspension of Member.

I move: "That Deputy Owen be suspended from the service of the Dáil."

This is a fine state of affairs.

The Ceann Comhairle allowed a thug to insult a decent Member.

I ask the Deputy to leave for continually disobeying the Chair. She has refused to accept the Chair's ruling.

I wished to raise a point of order about the Deputy's behaviour. I should not be put out and the Deputy opposite should stop sneering. He is a thug.

The Ceann Comhairle cannot hear what is being said on those benches but he can hear Deputy Owen. It is a disgrace.

The Deputy should leave the House.

A thug was allowed to insult another Member of this House. It is a disgrace.

The Deputy should be ashamed of himself.

He should be ashamed of himself and his leader should be ashamed of himself.

The Deputy must leave.

Why was the other Deputy not asked to leave? It is disgraceful.

The Chair has explained the position.

Question put, a division being demanded, the taking of the division was postponed until tomorrow.
Deputy Owen withdrew from the Chamber.
