Paul McGrath

Question:

168 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an application for grant aid was received from Westmeath County Council to fund the provision of a one stop shop at Castlepollard, County Westmeath; the date this application was received; if funding will be approved for this project in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5121/02]

An application for funding under the one-stop-shops scheme was received from Westmeath County Council in January 2001. The application proposed two one-stop-shops in the county, Athlone and Castlepollard. Funding of €1.27 million was approved for the Athlone project. At the time of the application the proposal for the Castlepollard one-stop-shop was still in the early stages. The council was informed that, should the project develop to include the provision of other public services as well as services provided by the local authority, further consideration could be given to funding under the programme in 2002.
