Vol. 548 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

224 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if a school (details supplied) in County Waterford will retain its second assistant for the coming school year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5186/02]

The staffing of primary schools is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. This is in accordance with guidelines agreed between my Department and the education partners.

I understand that the enrolment at the school in question has decreased from 55 pupils on 30 September 2000 to 43 pupils on 30 September 2001.

The staffing schedule for the 2002-03 school year has not yet been finalised. As soon as the schedule is finalised, the board of management of the school will be advised of the position by circular letter from my Department.
