Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Brian Hayes

Question:

342 Mr. B. Hayes asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will consider the introduction of an allowance for the elderly in order that people who are in receipt of a State pension will be exempt from paying local waste charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5275/02]

Some local authorities operate waiver schemes whereby those in receipt of certain types of social welfare payment are exempt from the payment of waste charges. The question of making these schemes available on a wider basis is a matter for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.
