Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Michael Creed

Question:

359 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if he will request Dúchas to carry out conservation works to a national monument (details supplied) in County Cork. [5663/02]

My Department has embarked on a considerable investment programme, totalling some €130 million, – the details of which were announced by me on 5 November 2000 – in respect of the national monuments and historic properties in my care, under the National Development Plan 2000-2006. Since all the capital resources which are intended for the conservation and development of the built heritage infrastructure are committed for the foreseeable future, I have no plans to carry out conservation works to this national monument. If the local authority, or any other body, is in a position to undertake this project, I will be happy to provide technical advice and give guidance as to best practice in relation to the works required.
