Question:

361 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her plans to provide funding under the national development plan and through Waterways Ireland for the inland waterways; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5807/02]

Waterways Ireland is a North-South implementation body for inland waterways, set up under the British-Irish Agreement signed in March 1999. Under the National Development Plan, 2000-2006, Waterways Ireland has been allocated funding of €72.3 million. Of this, €48.6 million has been allocated for the Border, midlands and western regions and €23.7 million for the southern and eastern regions. Waterways Ireland has advised me that the expenditure to date under the national development plan is €14.1 million, which is broken down as follows:
