450 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the entitlements for long serving temporary and substitute teachers; his further views on the situation whereby they must sign the live register during holiday periods, especially the summer period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods):

Officials of my Department are currently engaged in discussions with the teacher trades unions and the managerial authorities of primary and second level schools with regard to the implementation of the terms of the part-time workers Act, 2001. The issues raised by the Deputy are being examined in the context of the discussions.
