Vol. 549 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Offices.

Paul McGrath

Question:

195 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the date on which the social welfare offices which were operated under contract at Castlepollard, County Westmeath, closed; the efforts which have been made by his Department to secure new offices for this town; when he expects to have replacement facilities in place, and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6030/02]

The branch office in Castlepollard closed on 1 August 2001, on the retirement of the manager. The position of branch manager at Castlepollard was advertised in the local press, a condition for appointment being the provision by the candidates of suitable office accommodation. A number of candidates applied and were subsequently interviewed. The results are being processed and an appointment, subject to the usual clearances, will be made shortly.
