Vol. 549 No. 1

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Michael Finucane

Question:

201 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will arrange for the floodlighting of Desmond Castle, Newcastle West, County Limerick. [5986/02]

As the Deputy will be aware, Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, has been carrying out a programme of restoration and conservation to this medieval complex for a number of years. Desmond Hall – Castle – is now restored and open to the public.

Works are continuing at this site on the Halla Mór and on the former coach house. The coach house is being refurbished for use as a visitor facility. Lighting for the entire site will be considered as the works are nearing completion but it is not my intention to provide for floodlighting at this stage.
