Vol. 549 No. 2

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

124 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which various forms of crime reflect an increase or decrease in the past four years; his proposals to deal with the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6099/02]

The Deputy will be aware that crime statistics are set out in the Annual Reports of An Garda Síochána. Copies of the reports for the years 1997 to 2000, inclusive, with the 2000 report being the most recent, are available in the Oireachtas Library. I have outlined, in this House and elsewhere, the Government's approach to the crime problem which has focused on greatly increased resources for the criminal justice system.
