30 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the investigation which has been held into the circumstances of the escape from custody of two prisoners en route to Limerick prison on 31 January; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6067/02]

I am informed by Garda authorities that on 31 January two prisoners escaped from Garda custody in Limerick city whilst being conveyed to Limerick Prison. An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this escape. One of the prisoners has been recaptured and remanded in custody pending the outcome of his case before the courts. The second prisoner is still at large. I am assured that all available Garda resources are being utilised to apprehend him.
