Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Jack Wall

Question:

287 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the details and the budget for the RAPID II programme for his Department; the details of the budget allocated for Athy, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6373/02]

Strand II of the RAPID programme for provincial towns is a focused initiative which will frontload and prioritise investment under the national development plan in 20 selected towns. The priorities will be identified on the basis of plans which will be drawn up for each RAPID area by an area implementation team. The team will be representative of the relevant State agencies, including the local authorities, and residents in the local community. The actual amount of funding which will be invested in any RAPID area under the national development plan will be dependent on the priorities of the area to be identified in the area plan. It is not possible, therefore, at this stage to project expenditure under the programme for any particular town.
