Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

336 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the allocation of funding from her Department to County Meath for arts and heritage projects for each year over the past five years; the amount of money allocated in 2001 and 2002 throughout the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6482/02]

I have interpreted the Deputy's reference to "arts and heritage" pro jects as comprehending expenditure, 2001, and estimates, 2002, under the headings below, which are the principal sources of funding for such projects in my Department's Vote, although other subheads do have "arts and heritage" aspects also.

Because of the fact that allocations and expenditure are not made on a strictly county basis, but on a district or regional basis, it is not possible to provide a complete breakdown of expenditure at county level in the time available. Thus, the table below indicates only expenditure on "arts and heritage" projects that has been clearly and specifically identified as having been made in County Meath in the years in question. The Deputy should note that other expenditure within the county from the remaining subheads of my Department's Vote during the years in question is not included.

The reply does not include grants given by either the Arts Council, Vote 41, or the Heritage Council, as they are directly responsible for administering their own grant schemes.
