Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Michael Ring

Question:

344 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if there is a subsidy or allowance available for workers in a Gaeltacht area, working for Gaeltacht firms. [6689/02]

While Údarás na Gaeltachta provides assistance for industries and businesses which provide employment, it does not make allowances or subsidies available to workers. Such matters are governed by European Union guidelines on aid. Information on Údarás na Gaeltachta assistance is published in its annual reports.

Under a small number of schemes administered by the training services division of Údarás na Gaeltachta, for example, the apprentice scholarship scheme and a scheme to assist people in attending particular courses in the context of lifelong learning, some allowances are paid to apprentices or other employees. However, these allowances are directed towards the cost of training and learning such as upskilling and do not constitute a pay subsidy or allowance. Reference is made to the training services of an tÚdarás in its annual reports.

Question No. 345 answered with Question No. 343.
