Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Spring Traps Importation.

Dan Neville

Question:

348 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the procedure to obtain approval for the importation of spring traps; and the name of the authorising authority in this regard. [6862/02]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 343 of 12 February in connection with the above. As stated in the reply, section 34(6) of the Wildlife Act, 1976 makes it an offence to import, other than pursuant to and in accordance with a licence granted by me as Minister, any trap, including a spring trap, snare or net to which section 2 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (Approved Traps, Snares and Nets) Regulations, 1977, S.I. No. 307 of 1977, does not apply. Applications to import traps not approved by these regulations should be directed to Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department.
