I am informed by the Garda authorities that the complex in question consists of three blocks of Dublin City Council housing, facing onto North Cumberland Street, Dublin. It is included in the policing section of the community policing unit at Fitzgibbon Street. I am further informed that since 1 August 2001, there have been no incidents recorded on the Garda Pulse system of public order offences having taken place at the complex.
I understand that representatives from the flats complex attend the community policing forum at Store Street Garda station, on a monthly basis. This forum enables representatives of An Garda Síochána, public representatives and Dublin City Council to discuss local issues with local representatives and to address any problems being encountered. I am informed by the Garda authorities that complaints expressed at the most recent forum concerning the complex related to minor drug dealing which was allegedly being conducted on balconies there. I understand that concerns were also expressed that patrons from a local public house were using the grounds of the flat complex as a toilet.
In respect of the alleged drug dealing, local resources in conjunction with the divisional drugs unit are aware of the complaint made and have been directed to pay necessary attention. I am also informed the community policing units and the public order patrol van, which operates from Fitzgibbon Street, have been directed to supplement regular patrols and continue to monitor the area in order to curb any instances of public disorder which may occur there.
