Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seamus Healy

Question:

375 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is now in a position to reply to Parliamentary Question No. 397 of 19 February 2002 regarding the appointment of community gardaí in Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and Tipperary town. [6888/02]

I refer the Deputy to my letter to him dated 21 February 2002.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

376 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda Síochána personnel employed in security duty at his Department; the cost per annum; the accommodation or shelter which is available to these personnel; if he will consider the use of a private security firm in order to release the Garda Síochána personnel to contain street violence, drug abuse or other criminal activities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6889/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, which are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources to individual areas, that it is not the policy of the Garda Síochána to disclose the type of information sought by the Deputy on operational and security grounds. I can state, however, that there are no plans to change the current security arrangements.
