I regret that the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department.

393 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of metalwork, science and woodwork teachers employed in second level schools. [6356/02]

Returns from second level schools for the current school year indicate that there are 4,758 individual teachers timetabled to teach metalwork, science and woodwork as follows:

Metalwork

Science (including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics & Chemistry and Agricultural Science)

3,429

Woodwork (including Materials Technology)

877

The returns indicate that 43 teachers are teaching more than one of these subjects.

394 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of teachers appointed to the post of principal and deputy principal in the years from 1990 to 2001 in second level schools. [6357/02]

According to my Department's records, the number of teachers appointed to the position of principal in voluntary secondary, community and comprehensive schools in the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 was 35, 49 and 38 respectively. The numbers appointed to the position of deputy principal in the same years were 43, 53 and 40 respectively.

Details in respect of the period 1990 to 2001, in the case of schools in the vocational sector, or in respect of the years prior to 1999, in the case of voluntary secondary, community and comprehensive schools, are not readily available.
