Vol. 549 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ulick Burke

Question:

137 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the progress which has been made in relation to the application for funding under the CLÁR scheme for Peterswell proposed sewerage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6947/02]

The development of public water supply and sewerage systems is the responsibility of the Department of the Environment and Local Government with the relevant local authority. In order to further encourage the development of public water supply and sewerage systems in small towns and villages located within CLÁR areas, my Department, under the CLÁR initiative, will provide €1 for €1 matching funding for all schemes funded under the small water and sewerage schemes programme by the Department of the Environment and Local Government and located within the CLÁR areas.

The provision of this CLÁR funding is contingent on the scheme being selected, in the first instance, by the local authority in question and the general requirements for small schemes being adhered to. CLÁR funding will only be released when the local authority in question confirms that tenders have been received and the contractor selected. To date, no application has been received in respect of the Peterswell sewerage scheme from Galway County Council.
