Vol. 549 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

302 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that, although a recommendation of additional tuition from a learning support teacher was made by the special education psychologist who assessed a person (details supplied) in County Wexford, this person is not receiving learning support teaching; the way in which it is proposed to redress this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7031/02]

I am aware of the pupil referred to by the Deputy. I understand that the learning support teacher service in the school in question was reviewed recently and that the pupil in question was deemed ineligible for learning support teaching. However, I have asked my Department's inspectorate to make contact with the school with a view to reviewing the pupil's educational needs. When this process has been completed, my officials will be in contact with the school authorities.
