Vol. 549 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Parks.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

30 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress regarding the identification of alternative visitor facilities for the Burren National Park, County Clare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6800/02]

My Department is in the process of engaging consultants to evaluate all of the options that may exist throughout the north Clare area to allow for effective public access to the Burren national park and for appropriate control of that access. Public notices have been placed in national newspapers, in the Clare Champion and in the EU Journal as well as on the relevant official websites and the deadline for submission of tenders to my Department in this context is 27 March 2002. The consultants' brief will include a requirement to engage in the widest possible consultation, including local community and other groups, and with Clare County Council as the relevant planning authority.
